EMERITUS TEACHER AWARD

Purpose of the Award:

The New Mexico Music Educators Association wishes to recognize the contributions of retired music educators who continue to contribute to the New Mexico music education community through the Emeritus Teacher Award.

Criteria and Guidelines for Nominating Candidates:

Must be a current member of NMMEA.
Must be a retired music educator.
Widely recognized as a fine music educator with many years in the profession.
Continues to assist as a music education resource.
Has been influential in the success of numerous active music educators.
For this person, music education remains a passion and an important part of his/her life even after retirement. This person has changed other people’s lives for the better as a result of his/her actions.
Nomination may be made posthumously.
Only one candidate may receive this award in any given year.

Procedure for Nomination of Emeritus Teacher Candidates:

Each NMMEA District Organization at a regular spring meeting of its membership may nominate any NMMEA member for consideration of the award.
Each district may nominate one candidate they feel meets the criteria stated above.
Each NMMEA District President will appoint a three-member committee from the membership to screen and recommend that district's candidate. The committee will be responsible for forwarding the proper resume form to the candidate, screening the resumes, and preparing a letter of support for the nominee.
Forward six (6) copies of the resume, six (6) copies of letters of recommendation, one photo of the nominee, and the names and addresses of local newspapers and other media for publication purposes to the immediate Past President no later than July 1, each year.

Resume Must Include:

Years of active teaching.
Contributions to the music education profession, both before and after retirement.
Service to NMMEA through active participation at District and State levels.
Honors and/or awards received.
