New Mexico Music Educators
Association
William "Bill" Smith All-State Memorial
Award
The purpose is to give selected
students a cash award at the All State Conference. The All-State
Memorial Award is in honor of William "Bill" Smith, longtime supporter
of music education in New Mexico. Bill designed countless band
uniforms for school districts throughout New Mexico, trained many drum
majors and delighted in the music the young people of New Mexico
created at the New Mexico All-State Music Festival and Zia Band
Competitions. Bill was loved and respected by music students and
their teachers throughout the State of New Mexico.
GUIDELINES
-
A minimum of three stipends
will be awarded: one from each of the All-State divisions (band,
choir, and orchestra) to be determined by a
drawing.
-
At the Final Concert of each
group, the appropriate Vice President will announce the student
selected to receive the Bill Smith Memorial Award for that ensemble
and read the biographical information included in the introduction of
this document. A representative of the Smith family will be invited to
make this presentation and give each student a check for the award.
-
The amount of the
award will be determined by the earned interest available in the
William "Bill" Smith account stewarded by the Board of Directors of
the New Mexico Music Educators Association.
